Selena

She was a designer, singer and performer and broke barriers in the industry of music. She was at once an American-Mexican traditional star who bound together both realms of music in an unison way. And she brought incredible Tejano music to an affluent crowd. She was a rising star whose untimely passing splintered it. And as is common for a gifted, charming and young artist is lost too quickly people mourn the possibilities she was yet to reach. To stop her accomplishments from being forgotten many of her fans in these past few times have been motivated to do even more. The tragic shooting death of Selena caused a reaction in the Latino community that was similar with the reactions to the death of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. An enormously popular singer in Latino communities across North America her music crossed borders of culture to impact the lives of children as well as old. Selena might have been described by certain people as an Latina Madonna, however she's still an excellent role model. Selena's values of family life offstage and her participation in AIDS awareness programs make her a good example.
